ABSTRACT

Methods: This is a case series, carried out from March to July 2020, with data recorded in the nutritional monitoring records of patients hospitalized with COVID-19. The variables analyzed were: demographic (age and sex);clinical (comor-bidities, underlying disease and outcome), anthropometric, biochemical and nutritional support. Results: The sample consisted of 102 patients, 65.7% had the severe acute respiratory syndrome, the main underlying disease observed was heart disease (23.5%) and 69.3% of patients were discharged from the ICU. Regarding nutritional variables, approximately 50% of patients received enteral feeding and 73.3% started early. Concerning biochemical markers, patients who died had higher C-reactive protein (CRP)/albumin ratios (p=0.024) and CRP concentrations (p=0.012) when compared to those who progressed to dis-charge from the ICU. In addition, it is observed that the eld-erly (adjusted HR = 3.62;95%CI 1.19 - 10.97) and early ini-tiation of enteral nutritional therapy (adjusted HR = 10.62;95%CI 2.41 - 46 .87) were factors related to ICU discharge. Conclusion: Monitoring the inflammatory process using different markers seems to be a good parameter for the clinical evolution of these patients. In addition, the benefits of early enteral nutrition therapy may be associated with better clinical outcomes and reduced complications during hospitalization.

ABSTRACT

This is a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research, linked to the project of the Nucleus for the repair of pulmonary ventilators (NRVP). Objective: to report the experiences and reflections of a team of nursing teachers who work in the repair of pulmonary respirators. The reflections contributed to coping with COVID-19, its daily implications. Fostering the creation of a specific training course for the maintenance of hospital equipment is a necessity in force at this time of the pandemic and in the post-pandemic. The strategy developed for the repair and maintenance of pulmonary respirators, in coping with COVID-19 should be configured as a legacy of this period and as a social contribution of those involved in the process. In this way, we can say that the attitude of creating the repair nucleus was constituted as a social action, of volunteering and engagement of the participants that integrate the responses of the teaching and research institutions to the crisis of COVID-19 in Brazil. .

ABSTRACT

Several actions were deployed to contain the propagation of the new coronavirus and the flattening of the contagion curve, or rather, social distancing with partial or total suspension of commercial activities, including agricultural fairs. Current research identifies the effects of the pandemic on production and commercialization by family farmers in the Project of Sustainable Development Porto Seguro in Marabá PA Brazil. Study comprised field research and the application of a questionnaire with questions on the farmer´s profile, characteristics of activities and impacts by the pandemic. Data from qualitative and quantitative approaches were tabulated and interpreted by descriptive analysis. Results showed a production increase by farmers and changes in sanitary practices. However, trade decreased and prices remained stable, impairing family income. Emergency help was important for income supplementation. Farmers had at their disposal TV, radio and WhatsApp for information, even though access to the Internet was not without difficulties. According to the interviewees, the pandemic´s main negative items were lockouts, difficulties in selling, impairment of health and loss of products. Positive items comprised on-line agricultural fair, a new solution for reaching clients. © 2022 University Center of Maringa. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Objective: to know the feelings of children/adolescents with Sickle Cell Disease perceived by mothers and to identify feelings experienced by mothers of children/adolescents with Sickle Cell Disease after the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: qualitative study, developed in a city in the state of Bahia with the participation of 19 mothers of children and adolescents with Sickle Cell Disease. Data were obtained between March and April 2020 through semi-structured interviews via WhatsApp calls, which were submitted to thematic, factor and similarity analysis after transcription. Results: the participants reported feeling overload when dedicating full time to the care of their children, who were more vulnerable and emotionally unstable due to social distancing. Therefore, strategies were adopted by mothers, intending to adapt and reduce tensions-provided by the context of the pandemic-in themselves and in their children. Conclusion: mothers of children/adolescents with Sickle Cell Disease need to be supported and instrumentalized in order to implement care centered on the psychoemotional dimension and seek specialized help, especially regarding feelings triggered due to the need to maintain the therapeutic routine of their children in the midst of the pandemic. © 2022, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. ABSTRACT

Basic Education schools suspended their classroom activities due to the new coronavirus, responsible for the Covid-19 pandemic, end therefore some institutions took the remote classes as their aegis. In this context, the objective of this research is to analyze the impacts of the new educational scenario on the professional identity and educational work of teachers from the assumptions of dialectical historical materialism, and the principles of Cultural-Historical Theory and Historical-Critical Pedagogy. Based on the results presented, it is concluded that the new world scenario maximizes old structural problems of the Brazilian educational system, evidenced by an Education project anchored in reformist matrices and managerial principles that envision the privatization of public education and the adoption of new technologies such as solution for education. Furthermore, the new competences mentioned to the teacher directly impact the de-characterization of their professional identity and their educational work.

ABSTRACT

Index tracking consists of mimicking a benchmark performance with a portfolio formed by a subset of assets contained in the index. Due to the cardinality constraint, obtaining an optimal solution for this problem can be impractical as the number of stocks in the index grows. Then, meta-heuristics, such as genetic algorithms, can obtain good solutions in a reasonable time, making it possible for the investor to run different configurations of the problem before deciding to rebalance or not his portfolio. Also, to evaluate an investment strategy, it is important to perform backtests considering different risk scenarios, especially in crisis scenarios, with a high volatile market. This work aims to analyze the integration of hybrid and pure genetic algorithms and two optimization models in a high volatility market scenario, the Brazilian market index IBOVESPA during the COVID-19 pandemic. We observed that the hybrid algorithms returned competitive solutions, tracking IBOVESPA even closer than the CPLEX solution on the linear model for a non-rebalancing strategy. However, they were not competitive in a rebalancing strategy, with solutions presenting a gap of more than 100% relative to the general-purpose solver solution. © 2021 IEEE

ABSTRACT

Aims Several Gastroenterology Societies created recommendations in order to reduce any non-essential exposure to thesevere acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus. The purposes of this paper are 1) to evaluate thenational gastroenterologists' perspective of the impact of COVID-19 and 2) to evaluate the impact of the reorganization ofthe Gastroenterology department of Centro Hospitalar Vila Nova de Gaia/Espinho (CHVNG/E) during COVID-19 Pandemic. Methods For the 1 purpose, an online survey of 32 questions was distributed to gastroenterologists nationwide. For the2 purpose the authors conducted a retrospective analysis of some endoscopic procedures performed at theGastroenterology Department of CHVNG/E between March 16 and May 8 during the years 2019 and 2020. Results 67 gastroenterologists have answered our survey between April 15th and May 5th 2020, mostly females (53.7 %)and 55 to 65 years-old group was the most prevalent (25.4 %). Only 14.9 % were residents. 86.6 % worked in a hospital with COVID-19 patients, with 16.4 % assigned to assist those patients. All the departments had suffered modifications. 90 %of the residents affirmed that their activity has changed mainly endoscopic practice, and 64.2 % respondents agreeing withan internship extension. 94 % declared to have non-essential endoscopic procedures postponed. 85.1 % maintained in-person medical visits, 88.1 % were already having remote consultations and 11.9 % did not have any clinical visit. In ourgastroenterology unit, the number of endoscopic procedures had decreased 73.1 % from 2019 to 2020. Conclusions The advent of the COVID-19 outbreak has led to important changes among Gastroenterology activities inPortugal, and national gastroenterology units are complying with the recommendations. Furthermore, PortugueseGastroenterologists believed that the decrease in endoscopic activity can compromise residents' education and training. Thegastroenterology department at CHVNG/E has shown a significant reduction in the number of endoscopic proceduresperformed during the same period from 2019 to 2020.

ABSTRACT

At the beginning of 2020 Covid-19-a disease caused by a new type of coronavirus-was classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization and affected countries on all continents, leading to the death of hundreds of thousands of people. In Brazil, the disease has also spread quickly, requiring measures of social isolation. Marked by overcrowding and precarious infrastructure, brazilian prisons have become an issue of concern for national and international organizations that have demanded releasing measures. In this context, this article analyzes the National Penitentiary Department's proposal to use containers to shelter prisoners, which is against Resolution 62/2020 of the National Council of Justice, that pointed to the reduction of the population deprived of liberty. It is discussed how the disregard for releasing measures and the demand for even more rights-violating propositions lead to the ratification of a death policy for prisoners. © 2020.
